Top Ten Favourite Romances

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely ladies over at The Broke and the Bookish
This Week's Prompt
TOP TEN FAVOURITE ROMANCES
Okay, so this week's prompt was really difficult, but in no particular order..... (except 1. 1 is definitely no questions asked 1)

1. Jane Bennet and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice

How many times have I mentioned this couple? I love love love these two together. It's not just their partiular brand of banter or...sparring that I love, it's that they make each other better people when they're together. They have a great arc, they learn to love each other and once they do well they're not perfect. But together they're more tolerant people.

2. Samantha Reed and Jase Garrett from My Life Next Door

My Life Next Door was one of my favourite books last year. Samantha and Jase are just teenagers, but they pretty much, kind of, know what they want. But the struggle and just CARE about each other. Their relationship is why I love this book so much. It's touching.

3. Jacqueline and Lucas from Easy

Easy another one of my favourite books. Jacqueline kind of drove me crazy at first, but she pulled herself out of it and once again, you can just sense how much these two care about each other. Also, Lucas is pretty much the fantasy boyfriend. Like too good to be true and I kind of love reading about him.

4. Echo Emerson and Noah Hutchins from Pushing the Limits

So these two are the kind of wise beyond their years due to cirumstances couple. They bond over personal tragedies and while Pushing the Limits wasn't my favourite book I was rooting for these two to work their shit out and get together the entire way through.
5. Claire Abshire and Henry DeTamble from The Time Traveler's Wife

Claire and Henry have such an unconventional love story in The Time Traveler's Wife and that's why I love it. They have to go through so much to be together. He's a time traveler. He meets her for the first time when she's a child and when she's in her twenties. It's complicated and heart wrenching at times. So good.

6. Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables

This has to be one of my all time favourite books from childhood and how can you not fall in love with Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe? They've known each other since they were children. He dips her hair in ink! It's just such a sweet story over all, including the romance.

7. Mariana and Richard from Mariana

This one's pretty much on here because I can't resist a historical romance that throws in a bunch of the supernatural and Susanna Kearsley's Mariana does that in spades! Come on, the house kinnnnnd of transports our protagonist back in time into a past life.

8. Lucy Marinn and Sam Nolan from Rainshadow Road

This is just kind of your classic romance novel. Purely escapist. Little bit of the mystical thrown in for good luck. The characters don't really stand out, but it's probably my favourite romance novel. Lisa Kleypas has stolen my heart and ruined the genre for all other authors in my mind.

9. Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre

This is just one of those classic romances for me. I'll admit I have a few issues with it, but over all, I just get sucked into the story and want Jane and Mr. Rochester to be happy dammit! You know, even if there is a wife in the attic.

10. Layken and Will from Slammed

I just finished Slammed and am still kind of processing. But this book has been on my mind and I kind of loved the romance between Will and Layken. They both had to struggle so much. Definitely not perfect, and I'm not totally sold on the instant BAM kind of love they had, but overall, a really enjoyable couple to read about. Despite all the DRAMA.

  2. I didn't think of Clair & Henry! :( Great list. I haven't read Jane Eyre yet, but it's on the short list for this year. So hopefully I love the romance as much as you and some others (I've already seen it on a couple of other lists).

  5. I got a free copy of Rainshadow Road from Goodreads, and I didn't think I was going to like it at all, but I ended up really enjoying it--I think I read it in two sittings. Lucy and Sam were very cute. :D
As far as LM Montgomery pairings go, I'm a bigger fan of Emily and Teddy, or even Ilse and Perry. Anne always got on my nerves.

    1. I'm in the exact same boat with Rainshadow Road. I also got it from goodreads and was pleasantly surprised. I haven't read the next one in the series, but I really want to.

    1. I probably could have turned this list into an essay on why I love Jane Austen so I had to limit myself to just one!
