Top Ten Books I HAD to Buy... But Are Still Sitting on My Shelf Unread

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely ladies over at The Broke and the Bookish
THIS WEEK'S PROMPT IS TOP TEN BOOKS I HAD TO BUY BUT ARE STILL SITTING ON MY SHELF UNREAD

1. THE HISTORIAN by ELIZABETH KOSTOVA
The Historian just had such a great cover and well it had historian as the TITLE. Plus there's the promise of evil mysteries hidden in history. I absolutely had to have it. That was two years ago. Haven't even cracked open the cover. (Goodreads)

2. THE GODFATHER by MARIO PUZO
Loved the movie. Probably one of my favourites. So I went out and bought the book. I've re-watched the movie like five times since then, but haven't started the book. (Goodreads)

3. GENDER TROUBLE by JUDITH BUTLER
This is kind of an academic book discussing gender performance. I've read excerpts from it, I've analyzed, I've used this as a reference on papers. I just went out and purchased the full book awhile back convinced I was going to read this over the course of like a month. Of course I didn't. (Goodreads)

4. THE MILL ON THE FLOSS by GEORGE ELLIOT
I have a thing for the classics as has been made pretty clear on this blog. I've been collecting them for years and have gotten through most of them. I really want to get through this at some point, I just don't know when that will be. (Goodreads)

5. CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF by TENNESSEE WILLIAMS
This is a classic play. I wanted to actually sit down and read more plays so I went out and bought it. Nope. That never became a thing. (Goodreads)

6. JUST ONE DAY by GAYLE FORMAN
Just One Day sounds like a book I'll love; it's received rave reviews from well pretty much everybody and it made my Top Ten Books on my Spring 2013 TBR List. So I definitely need to get on this one, but it's been sitting on my shelf unread for awhile now. (Goodreads)

7. THE HOLLOW TREE by JANET LUNN
This is a book I bought when I was actually the intended age group (note, this is historical MG). This one has been a loooooooooong time coming. (Goodreads)

8. THE LORD OF THE RINGS by J.R.R. TOLKIEN
My friends rave about these books and they have such a huge following. I really feel like i NEED to read this book and all the rest in the series. I own them. I've owned them for years. Never read. (Goodreads)

9. THE TYPEWRITER IS HOLY by BILL MORGAN
I love love love history and the Beat generation always seem pretty awesome. This historical look at the Beat authors seems super interesting and right up my alley. I should probably read this one soon. (Goodreads)

10. THE IDIOT by FYODOR DOSTOEVSKY
Another classic that's been moved to the bottom of my TBR pile. I bought it around the same time I bought Anna Karenina, I was going through a Russian phase, but Anna Karenina took me SO LONG to complete that I gave up on this one. (Goodreads)

  1. Just One Day is lovely and a very quick read. I am anxious for Just One Year! It took me forever to muster up the energy to tackle Tolkien. It was worth it, but I will most likely never read that series again...even though I own it. I think I have a bunch of Russian classics left over from my Russian phase! Here are my neglected books http://wp.me/pzUn5-1sh

  5. I've had The Historian for like four years now. Still unread. Oops.

LOTR and Just One Day are totally fantastic, though not for everyone. Hope you love them!
