Top Ten Books For When You Need Something Light and Fun

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely ladies over at The Broke and the Bookish

THIS WEEK'S PROMPT IS TOP TEN BOOKS FOR WHEN YOU NEED SOMETHING LIGHT AND FUN

1. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
My Life Next Door was such a sweet summer read for me. It wasn't too heavy, the characters were increidbly likeable, and I fell in love with the romance. That's not to say that there are no layers to this book or that there's no depth, but it makes me feel good.

2. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Ever since I read this one about a month ago I cannot stop raving about it. It was just so. good. I kind of loved everything about it and it was set in Paris. It's definitely a lighter read for me and it was perfect

3. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight is a fast, heart warming read. There are moments that kind of had me tearing up, but in the end its a story about love, both romance and familial. Overall it's a super light read and it again, it made me smile. I couldn't ask more from this book.

4. Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella
Okay this one has a freaking flapper ghost in it. It's pure escapism and I haven't read it in a few years, but I remember totally enjoying it in that guilty pleasure kind of way. Actually, anything by Sophie Kinsella is kind of like that for me.

5. Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris
This one may be cheating since it's technically a long drawn out series of books, but again, total guilty pleasure of mine. Vampires, werewolves, witches, fae abound in this tiny tiny tiny southern town. It's filled with crazy plot twists, sex and intrigue. There is like nothing of substance in this series, but the first few books were so much fun to read.

6. Rainshadow Road by Lisa Kleypas
I don't know if I'm including this one because I actually loved it or because I seem to read a lot of "issue" books, but here it is. Fun, light, romance kind of sums it up.

7. Mariana by Susanna Kearsley
So this woman feels oddly drawn to this super old English home and ends up buying it. But she finds herself being drawn to the seventeenth century and living the life of Mariana, a young woman who, when she was alive was having a forbidden affair. It's kind of a crazy premise and I found it completely irresistable. I love Kearsley's writing and she has this knack for writing romance/mysteries/historical fiction that is so much fun to read.

8. Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols
Such a Rush wasn't my favourite novel, but it was a fun one to read. Despite any issue I had with the book, I did get drawn into the romance of it all and if I look at it as just a light, fun read I'm more willing to ignore any niggling problems.

9. Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have) by Sarah Mlynowski
So Ten Things We Did is like the definition of a super light read. I didn't think there was a lot of substance and didn't end up loving it when I first read it. BUT I would be more than willing to reread this one sitting outside in my unseasonably warm yard right now. It's light, it's fun, it's about teenagers doing what they will without any parental supervision.

10. Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
I love David Sedaris' essays. He makes me laugh more than probably any other author out there right now. I like that he can take sort of every day stories and turn them into something humorous.

    1. I had to think about the car incident too and some of the heavier issues the book deals with, but in the end it was fairly upbeat. Plus, it's just one of my favourite books and I couldn't resist including it!

    1. I love those three authors because they can write novels that make you feel good, but not necessarily without any depth.

  6. Anna and the French Kiss was so good! And I am really looking forward to reading My Life Next Door because it seems a lot of people have liked it.

Exciting to see Mariana on your list because I almost included it on my list as well - I remember loving it, but since I do not remember it very well, I really want to read it again.

    1. I wasn't sure whether or not I should include Mariana since it's kind of a mystery and goes to some darker places, but it also has that feel good romance part. I'm excited to hear of somebody else liking a Susanna Kearsley novel!
